APW Charity for 2024/2025

The APW has selected HONOR FLIGHT as our “APW Charity of Choice 2024-25”.

THEIR MISSION
Honor Flight Kern County’s mission is to Honor, Thank, and Inspire by building awareness
and appreciation of the debt of gratitude America owes its veterans for their service and
sacrifice for our nation.

OUR VISION
The centerpiece of our programming is the Trip of Honor in Washington, D.C., visiting the
memorials built in tribute to the service of our veterans from WWII thru the Vietnam Era.
This trip is provided at no cost to the veteran and is intended as a heartfelt thank you for
their service and sacrifice from a grateful nation. A sponsorship of approximately $1500.00
per veteran covers the cost for the trip – a small price to pay to change a life. A life that has,
in many cases, been carrying an incredible burden for some 50-70 years. The trip includes
all air and ground -transportation, meals, overnight accommodations, and guided tours.
All at no cost to the veteran. (All guardians and support personnel are self-funded).
Honor Flight Kern County encourages community and student participation in all of our
programs, and uses lessons derived from the Honor trip in its OPERATION EDUCATION
program, inspiring students to learn about the service and sacrifice of our veterans. The
mission is to educate our youth about the impact of WWII, the Cold War, the Korean War
and the Vietnam War along with the freedoms our nation enjoys, because of the service of
the Veterans. We do this by bringing veterans in to our local schools for round table chats,
assemblies, sporting events, etc… Schools also raise money to sponsor THEIR veteran
(allowing them to take ownership – to see, feel and touch “their” vet, first
hand). Currently, some 8 schools have formed Honor Flight Clubs – again, learning the
history of what it takes to be free, first hand from those that were on the front lines.
With the welcomed support of generous donors and a caring public, Honor Flight Kern
County intends to continue its mission to include veterans of wars – past, present, and
future – as we recognize the bravery, determination, and patriotism of our veterans.
HFKC is an all-volunteer non-profit created to honor veterans of Kern county and is
completely funded through the generosity of our community.
